Sony LinkBuds

This week, Sony announced its new wireless earphone, LinkBuds. It has a unique open ring design, providing a comfortable and clear sound during calls and music appreciation. The design of LinkBuds was created to allow users to “connect with the outside world whenever they want, without compromising the listening experience”. With its transparent, open ring design, ultra-compact super-fit, clear sound quality, and call quality, the LinkBuds1 is always connected and remains conscious. It (Sony) will use LinkBuds’s unique design, sensors, and spatial acoustics to create new sound experiences with partners, focusing on AR games, sound AR navigation, new workflow home experiences, and quick access to music.

Sony LinkBuds Design

The design of Sony’s LinkBuds is different from any product on the market. IA donut-shaped earpiece is useful and worn on the ear. It fits directly to the ear, eliminating the need for foam or other chips and requiring no fitting adjustment. The LinkBuds does not have a silicon chip, and it is worn on the ear with the arc of a silicon supporter. (The 12mm ring audio driver features the same V1 processor as Sony’s 1000XM4 Bud and provides DSEE audio up-scaling but lacks the LDAC support found in expensive flagship earphones.)

Point of evolution

The hall of LinkBuds, an open ring driver, allows you to listen to music while listening to the surrounding environment, just like any other headphone product, such as sunglasses with sound or a bone conduction option. Sony LinkBuds do not interfere with the surrounding sound. So, it is suitable for walking, running, cycling, public transportation, etc.

Clear sound quality

The LinkBuds is equipped with precision audio pickup technology for advanced audio signal processing. Sony’s noise reduction algorithm uses more than 500 million audio samples to reduce ambient noise and extract audio. LinkBuds provides a quiet space and clear calling even when used in noisy environments.

In addition, it has a compact and open-air design but also achieves high sound quality.

Sony LinkBuds Features

  • A unique open ring driver connects content with the surrounding environment.
  • Each earphone weighs 4.1g
  • High-quality, clear conversation
  • Built-in V1 processor for high sound quality and balanced sound
  • Accurate voice pickup technology for clear calls
  • Up to 5.5 hours of battery life, up to 17.5 hours total with charging case
  • IPX4-compliant drip and sweatproof design

Daily earphone

It has a waterproof performance of IPX4 and its average playing time is 5.5 hours. And, 90 minutes with 10 minutes of rapid charging. It also supports Microsoft’s “Soundscape” and allows you to listen to “sound beacons and calls at buildings and intersections” and understand the surrounding situation.

Fast Pairing and Easy Bluetooth Pairing

The LinkBuds supports Fast Pair, a new feature in Google, making it easy to pair with your Android device and easily locate your LinkBuds on your smartphone.

Google Fast and Swift Pair allow users to quickly tap on notifications to connect to their Android device devices. You remove the earbuds from the case in some cases, and the pop-up will appear automatically. That’s good.

LinkBuds supports Spotify Tap, so you can quickly resume music and podcasts without having to worry about it. The latter is a 3D audio technology that helps blind people find their way.

Final Words

Sony LinkBuds is not necessarily a wireless pair that does something different from traditional earphones. Many models try to capture sound and listen to music, but I don’t think there is any other brand that places so much emphasis on listening to the surrounding sound. Instead of searching for earphones, such as skipping songs or adjusting volume, LinkBuds can be useful by actually tapping the skin area just in front of the ear. Sony calls this “wide-area tap.” The ring driver design is unique, and with a small amount of test, the audio is so natural that it impresses.
